Why hello there! Let me take a moment to introduce myself. I’m Tom, a Senior Account Manager at Carbon Creative and as I’m fast approaching 6 months at Carbon Creative, what better time to reflect on my time to date.
Why Carbon?
Having spent the best part of 10 years at a leading healthcare communications agency, I decided the time was right for a new challenge. So why Carbon Creative?
Having been brought up on the right side of the pennies in the vast green expanse of the Yorkshire Dales national park, they call it god’s own country for good reason! I’ve always had an interest in the outdoors, be that rugged coastlines or snow capped mountains and ensuring that the future generations get to enjoy these amazing landscapes, just as much as I have is a keen priority.
When looking for my next job, not only the type of clients, type of work, but company ethos and values played a huge part in my decision. Seeing the company values of Carbon Creative so closely aligned to mine, meant that I had to send my CV in double quick time.
Having been part of a large agency, which in turn is part of an even larger network, the fact that Carbon Creative are such a tightly knit team was a huge appeal. Coupled with hearing more about what is involved with Carbon Creative being an Employee Owned Trust (EOT), made my decision easy that Carbon Creative was the agency for me. With each employee at Carbon Creative having a democratic voice in how the company moves forwards, the big decisions we make and the togetherness this brings really drew me in. The ability to have your voice truly heard really is powerful.
My experience so far
Ever since stepping into my first interview I’ve been made to feel nothing less than part of the team, welcomed with a warm embrace like a friend you’ve not caught up with too long. Everyone is willing to go the extra mile for each, no favour is too big to ask and everyone always has time to chat something through. The team even had my back, when having come second at the Common pub quiz, I fluffed our chances for the big cash prize with my feeble attempt at spinning the wheel and instead taking home a plastic goldfish bowl!
At Carbon Creative variety has very much been the spice of life, with no two days being the same. Project variation is huge, be that the type of client or type of project we are working on. Already having worked on a pitch, print materials, digital ads, animations, brand development, communication plans and awareness campaigns to name a few!Within the first 6 of working at Carbon some of the projects I’ve been working on have been the most humbling and inspiring I’ve ever worked on. To hear genuinely how much difference the work we do inspires will never cease the amaze and fill me with pride. It’s feedback like this that makes the pressure of hitting deadlines and the occasional late night worthwhile.
There have times where I’ve been pushed outside of my comfort zone, but then again they’ve tended to be the times I’ve found most rewarding. Such as bringing the Carbon Chronicle, our internal weekly update back for the ashes. I’ve never really considered myself much of a writer, but really do take joy in writing our weekly updates. It’s great to share what we’ve all been working on, celebrate the wins and let everyone know when we are heading out for lunch in media city!
Feeling at home
My feet are now well and truly under the carpet now here at Carbon Creative and I couldn’t be happier. I can’t wait to see what the coming months and years have not just for me, but for us as an agency. Exciting times are just around the corner.
